Laithwaite’s Wine to support the EWBC Digital Wine Communications Conference

EWBC organisers vrazon.com announced today that Laithwaite’s Wine will be supporting a new generation of wine writers, photographers and video-makers by becoming a sponsor of the European Wine Bloggers’ Conference (EWBC), set to take place in Turkey from November 9th to 11th, 2012.

Laithwaite’s Wine were a sponsor of the 2012 Born Digital Wine Awards (another Vrazon production); this new sponsorship will see Laithwaite’s Wine taking part in the EWBC’s programme of events and workshops that aim to share information and broaden the culture of wine, as well as working to improve industry standards for supporting wine bloggers.

“The area around the Eastern Mediterranean and the shores of the Black Sea is producing incredible wines that should be sourced and available to wine lovers around the world. The fact that a well-respected wine retailer such as Laithwaite’s Wine not only perceives this region’s value, but is also actively searching for quality wines to add to their portfolio, exemplifies the excitement the EWBC is creating,” says co-founder Gabriella Opaz of Vrazon.com.

Speaking about the announcement, Laithwaite’s Wine global wine director Justin Howard-Sneyd comments: “Tony Laithwaite is one of nature’s pioneers, and Laithwaite’s Wine was the first company to introduce flying wine makers to Europe. Tony himself is a keen, active blogger. We’re proud to be supporting other passionate and talented people who are sharing their enthusiasm for wine through excellent blog writing, photography and video.”

In addition to the sponsorship of the conference set to take place in Izmir in Turkey, Laithwaite’s Wine has also committed to source further quality wines for its range from the region.

“Laithwaite’s Wine will definitely buy one new Turkish wine as a result of our attendance at the EWBC and we would be delighted to list more if we are excited by the quality and the value for money,” Howard-Sneyd continues. “We will also be looking keenly at wines from the Eastern Mediterranean and the shores of the Black Sea, as we are convinced of the quality potential from these areas.”

About the EWBC Digital Wine Communications Conference

The EWBC is organised by Gabriella and Ryan Opaz and Robert McIntosh of wine communications company Vrazon http://vrazon.com . The only international event dedicated to the convergence of wine and the web, the EWBC provides a platform for the global wine community to address today’s online communication opportunities.

The annual, three-day event is helping to build an international network of wine communicators, and also encourages the acquisition of skills and information and the exchange of expertise across national, language and professional boundaries.

The fifth EWBC, sponsored by Wines of Turkey, will be held at the at the Swissôtel Grand Efes – Izmir , Turkey. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Source’, reflecting in part the hypothesis that Turkey is the birthplace of vitis vinifera, but also the suggestion that wine communicators should aim to become sources of knowledge, not just disseminators of information.

The fourth annual EWBC was held in Brescia (Italy) from October 14-16, 2011 and was attended by 216 wine communicators from 34 countries.

EWBC 2008: La Rioja (Spain), 50 delegates

EWBC 2009: Lisbon (Portugal), 140 delegates
